Stover: I would consider 32 or 33-inch tires as well. I just don't know how it would look with a spring over conversion and 33s. Would it look strange? I've never built a Scout before.
I think this would be a great project and would follow along. As for Spring over and 33" tires. It looks awesome, trust me on that. My rig: Spring over with 33" tires: Left Front Right Side Left Side

Robin, I think the idea of a tried and true Scout build is long overdue. I am playing with the idea myself right now. Personally, these are things I would like to see on/in the rig. Absolutely stay with the 345 V8, spring over is a no-brainer of course. Something I would like to see in detail however, is the new donor axle (what vehicle it's out of, length narrowed to, etc) as we all know that on D44s, the sring perch is cast into the pumpkin center section. Also the crossover steering. This faces some onstacles on spring over Scouts. Also, I know that Warn used to advertise high strength front axles for Scouts with D44s and they also sold a D44 full floater conversion kit for the rear axle. To my knoweldge, I have never seen a full float D44 in the rear of a Scout in ANY mag. If Warn is still building it, that would be intersting to see. Now, as far as the name goes, get a manual tranny and call it the "Binder Grinder".

The Scout build is a really good idea. Why not put a Cummins 4BT out of a UPS or Frito Lay truck in it with a Dodge NV4500 5 speed OD and married NP 205 transfer. Run a front military shortened Chevy CUCV Dana 60 and a military CUCV GM Corp 14 inch shortened in the rear. With a spring over and some triming you can run 37's. I would only shorten the axles to where some fender flares keep the rooster tails down to keep the CHP happy on the highway in the wet stuff. Dont forget the 6 point roll bar and soft top. You can run bio fuel and go green. Name it "SCOUT" after Tonto's horse. "Hi Ho Silver"

The Scout project is gaining momentum. I plan to start stripping it down soon in preparation for body and frame work.
You can do anything you dare to dream.
