I'm debating weather or not to purchase a 1973 Scout II to build as a project rig in the magazine. I like the concept of a daily driver/ trail rig with real-world appeal. I'm thinking 35-inch tires, fuel injected V8, bumpers, rockers, cage and interior. I guess I'm looking for input from YOU, our readers to see if a project Scout is something you would want to read about. Any input would be awesome!

Well, heck yes! I love an old "Harvester" (a.k.a : 13 letter poop spreader) I would like to see a real world, multipurpose support rig. Maybe some on board air? tool locker? winch? maybe a little microwave for Hotpockets or little deepfryer for funnel cakes?

That's funny I didn't even think of that angle I certainly don't want parents snatching up their kids whenever they see our project scout coming down the trail...lol. "Stout Scout" would work but it kind of implys that the rig is stout above everything else. If I were going to build it with 60's and a whole bunch of HD upgrades it might work, but I really want to keep things simple. Rebuild what is there already, fuel-inject the 345 V-8, mild lift, 35-inch tires, maybe reinforce the frame a bit and have it zinc plated, paint & body work, interior, bumpers etc. I don't know... Do you think the name "Stout Scout" fits with these mods?

A fuel injected 345 sounds like a plan to me! I absolutely believe the benefits outweigh the cost. Fine tuning your fuel curve to suit your needs with a laptop? That's just manly! That'll put hair on your chest(or back)

affordable fuel injection makes a kit for scouts sold thru ihonlynorth.com, scout guys run 35's on stock axles and don't usually stepup to a dana 60 until they run 37's or bigger

That might be cool...maybe a patriotic paint scheme? Some wavy stripes and strategic stars? It sure is easy to spend somebody else's money!
