I am looking at a 1995 ford F-150 4x4 with a 351 in it for $700 but the only thing is that the owner told me it needed motor work. I asked him what was wrong with it and he told me that it knocks at a higher RPM but as soon a it shifts and the rpm's go down the knocking stops. just wondering what the could cause the knocking. also is it worth it to buy something like this a fix t or possibly put a new motor in it.

For $700 if the rest of the truck is good I'd buy it.
It's totally possible that knock is just from carbon buildup. Run a can of Sea Foam through it and give it a tune up (new plugs, filter, ect) and see if that cures it. My guess is it will.
Could be wrong though...

Yea, but wouldn't a rod bearing make noise all through the RPM range?

Not always. If it is not too bad it might float a bit at lower RPM but as RPM's increase and dynamic forces increase on rod the film may rupture and increase clearance and knock loader. Also if it is a rod you will feel it in block with a hand on it. (you can feel it before you can hear it usually) Plugging plug spark on bad rod will cause a change in noise too.
