This site has some good info, http://www.jeep4.0performance.4mg.com/ignition.html
so i thought id try some of the recommended upgrades since i was servicing the xj anyways. So I installed the cap , rotar, new plugs, and a set of blue summit racing 8mm silicone wires, the coil will be comming in a few days. I also purchased a 60" hi-lift jack. After christmas i will be getting a Warn t-case skid plate, oil and tranny cooler. Im going to pull the trans pan and replace filter and fluid, drain and replace fluid in t-case and diffs. I am also wanting to remove the coil + spacers and replace with longer coil springs as i feel the spacers limit flex, so what are some really flexy springs and how long can i go with the stock control arms, I eventually want to switch to a longarm/radius arm set-up, i was just going to order the lower arms from rusty's and then build the radius arms to fit to keep it down on price.
Here are the parts i bought and installed if interested.

Accel "HD Black" Distributor Cap

Part no. ACC-120330
Accel distributor caps are the best way to help out your ignition. The compression molded caps with brass terminals are stress relieved immediately after molding in special fixtures to help ensure dimensional stability. The OEM distributor cap is good for 60,000 miles but has aluminium terminals that have a lower electrical conductivity than brass, resulting in a lower energy spark.

Accel Performance Distributor Rotor

Part no. ACC-130229.
The high conductivity corrosion resistant brass inserts and stainless steel rotor springs provide unrestricted spark energy flow.

MSD Blaster Coil

Part no. MSD-8228.
MSD Blaster 35,000V coils are designed with improved materials and windings to produce a stronger spark. This improved spark helps burn the fuel mixture more efficiently, resulting in a smooth idle and improved mid-range rpm power.
The OEM coil is a reliable and durable unit, therefore consider the MSD Blaster coil as a good stock replacement.

the spacers don't limit the travel, bumpstops limit uptravel, ya gotta have em to keep the tires outta the fenders for tires larger than 31's. 4.5" is all the stock control arms are fully functional for.

for most springs a set of 2.5" springs are only a little over an inch shorter than 4.5" springs unsprung.

my rancho's are 19.5" long (2.5")RE 3.5's are also 19.5" and 4.5" are around 20.25".
the major difference is the spring rate, so a 25.5" long shock will unseat em and put the stock 16" long control arm in an over extended position, which is useless especially if your difs aren't locked.

if ya get into a 6" lift they are around 22-22.5". ride quality suffer and theres no real gain on the travel/flex/articulation, the springs just unseat and have no ground pressure other than the weight of the axle and tire. gains are found in the uptravel before ya slam a bumpstop.

4" is about all the uptravel ya need for trail riding, if yer building for jeep speed you'll want more uptravel to soak up the whoops.

those spring measurements I posted are the length laying on the ground...

lift springs of  2,3,4,6 and 8" are aproximately 14,15,16,18 and 20" at ride height with the weight of the jeep on em, not including the isolator/spacer...
