I got a 96 gmc sonoma zr2. its the bomb i love it but i went a little too crazy and im pretty sure i broke the front diff. It goes into four wheel just fine (i can hear and see the transfer case switch) but when it is in two wheel if you get under the truck you can turn the front driveshaft by hand while the truck is sitting still. I also pulled off my front skid plate and took a real good look at both my axles. they are fine. what i need to know is what spline is my front pinion gear. So that i can buy new gears.

What's the problem? Or do you mean when it's in 4wd?

if it is in two wheel drive there is no power comin out of the transfer case because it is not engaged but if the wheels are not moving but the driveshaft is that would mean either the ring gear of differential is broken. unless it has a differential that un locks in 2wheel which would defeat the purpose of the transfer case.

And just why would a front axle that decouples defeat the purpose of a Tcase??? This is silly thing to say. That axle does decouple in 2wd so the wheels are not spinning/powering ring gear and drive shaft in 2wd...
