I have a 95 gmc sierra with the 350 Tbi motor and i just started getting a really bad rod knock. I can get a nice deal on a rebuilt carb 350 but i would like to stick with the tbi. I was wondering what all would need to be done to convert the carb to tbi. also weather or not its worth doing. the truck has a 6 inch lift with 35's on it and i use it as a daily driver and for mud/ dunes. thanks for the help

TBI m otors are more than just TBI. They have higher compression and heads that swirl mixture to mix it better and provide better low speed responce. They also have a slightly different cam too. YOu could get it too work but performance will likely be below that of old engine. If I were you I would consider taking the bottom end out of other 350 and using it in current motor as TBI motor has more potential with TBI especially if you advance timing and use higher octane fuel. I also suspect that you are running stock gearing with your 35's which also likely helped rod problems along from engine laboring a lot. I am surprised that engine gave up before tranny though.

The tranny has the 5-speed man. in it that grinds slightly when going into 2nd gear but i have a new trans and clutch i'm putting in it as well. Come tax return time i'm putting in 456 gears with lockers

Yes a manual. That explains why it outlasted engine.

ya. you might want to see if your sink rolls are worn out or not because those are what helps the gear's slide together... i had a 5 speed in my 94 GMC 2wd and with that tranny i couldn't do anything about it cuz i couldn't take it apart. don't worry if it grinds going into reverse becasue there is no sink rolls in there.

well if the tbi motors are slightly differen't cuz of heads and cam why not swap the tbi heads on the carb 350 that would give you the raised compression and swirling effect of tbi 350 then all you need to do is swap cam no??? this seems like a really simple solution am i missing something??

I am pretty sure it is not the head that raises CR as it is likely pistons because carb 350's of that era have dished pistons. As far as cam, I would use a aftermarket FI cam rather than used factory one from a worn engine.
