Hello everyone,   I have a question about which T-case I should use.  I have an '88 Jeep Wrangler , 6inch lift , 35" tires.  I bought a wrecked 2007 Tahoe 4x4 with a 5.3 and auto trans.  I'm going to put the 5.3 and auto trans in my '88 Jeep but not sure which T-case to use.  The Tahoe T-case also has the on dash switch which I was thinking would be cool to have ,  a Jeep with no shifters in the floor at all.  My stock T-case is a NP 231 with 272 ratio.  The Tahoe has a NP 246 with 272 ratio.  What are my options or what should I do?  Do I get an adapter and use my NP 231. Does the NP 231 need to be "beefed" up?  Is the NP 246 stronger and ready to go?  Do I need to get a second job and save for a Atlas 2 ??  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.  Thank you ,  Aaron

i would look for a manuel T-case from a Chevy HD don't put the tahoe t-case in there, its most likey an electric t-case and you don't want that

Thanks for the reply Alucard-HD and great looking truck.  Is the only negative about it , that it's electric?  I kinda thought it would be neet to have the electric switch on the dash along with the locker switches and have no shifters in the floor.  "IF" I could find a kit to make this Tahoe T-case a manuel shift , would it then be a good and stronger swap ??? , Aaron

In my oppinon the GM transfer Cases are very Strong the only problem with them is they are chain driven, but i'm not sure if you can get a manuel t-case kit for a power one, My addvise would be find a junk yard and see if they would be willing to make a trade your t-case for a maunel t-case, thanks for the good word about my truck. oh btw don't even try to use that t-case you have in push button form you'd have to get a computer and other nonsense to make it work.

Good Luck.

Aaron, if I were you, I would look for a NP241.  This is a strong, readily available transfer case that comes behind many V8 equipped trucks.  Easy to find with a manual shifter as well.

Stay away from the 205.  Except for high horsepower, full size applications, it is pretty much obsolete at this point.  Unless you wanted a doubler, which I know you don't because it would make your rear drive shaft about 6 inches long.  Besides that, you would have to source one from an older ford because the GM and Dodge versions all have the opposite side on the front output.  All this for only 2:1 low range?  Nah, stay with your stock t-case or secure a 241 like I said earlier.  If you wanted something really trick, find a 241 out of an older Rubicon and have the 4:1 reduction right off the bat!
