hello all! Hope everyone had a nice holiday.

I started up my 88 suburban this morning and noticed an unusually large white cloud coming out of my tailpipe. I popped the hood and saw water spitting out of the headers (only saw it leaking out of cyl 7 and 8) and also out of the flange where the manifolds meet the Y pipe.

There is no water in the oil pan or filter, and I really haven't checked much else besides possible hose leaks.

Any ideas before I rip apart the block?... intake manifold gasket?

thanks everyone

Intake manifold gaskets. Replace radiator cap with a Stant or Napa 7 PSI cap and see if leak changes. It may slow it down enough to give you some time. BTW, I run these caps on all my vehicles new or used and have for many years. 99% of the time there is no real need for a 16 PSI cap.

sounds like you have a blown head gasket...if you saw wtr leaking on the exhaust side of the head then I dont think its a bad intake gasket. get yourself a upper gasket set, new oil filter/oil, and coolant, and take care of it right away as a less psi cap is not gonna fix problem or help you out at this point by seeing if the leak will slow down. seein how its winter time you dont want to screw around w/cooling issues.

Actually a lower pressure cap can help a lot and can by time. Last thing you want is a 16 PSI cap especially with a leak. I went through two sets of intake gaskets on my 2000 K3500 under warranty. After last failure I went to a 7 PSI cap and it never leaked again and I never have any cooling issues either.

get the upper gasket kit, lower psi cap and go to town. you probably have alot of miles on it anyways and if its the intake or the head gasket the went south, chances are something else will go too. so your better off prepared so you wont run into anymore problems down the short road.

Some just take less work than others but none of them are "easy".
