I'm looking for a suv 4x4 i can use as a trail rig but also as a daily comuter to take the family out. i live in so cal where traffic is a pain. I'm looking for something automatic and decent on gas mileage so no v8. i was looking at toyota 4runners and nissan pathfinders. dont know where to start, can anyone lead me in the right direction. thanks for your help

toyota 4 runner is your best bet, its a great platform with plenty of after market support...........

that is a good choice...but the jeep cherokee has a bigger aftermarket support and probably easier to work on and no worse of gas mileage than the 4runner/pathfinder, and a hellofa better support than the pathfinder.

How'd I know you were going to say that Chariot?! I have to agree, with Jeep's aftermarket support, it'll be your best bet. Toyota's got alot of support as well, but no where near as much as Jeep. The Nissan's support is bleak, and my experiances' with Nissans gas milage are not great. I'd consider the Yota, definitly grab a Jeep, either the Cherokee or the Wrangler.

in terms of off roadability the jeep and 4runner are pretty close, the jeep is better off the lot maybe but belive me there is a lot of potential in the 4 runner, in terms of reliability i would give the nod to the toyota, but stay away from the nissan
