my dad has a 2006 ford f-250 superduty 5.4L with the fX4 off road pakage on it. the truck only had about 16,000 miles on it and he dosen't use the 4 wheel drive very much. but the last time we had the truck in 4LO when he put it back into 4HI and tried to move it was grinding. could this posibly be a problum  with the electronic shift on the fly 4 wheel drive on just a one time issue and is nothing to wory about. we also had a problum last winter when the 4 wheel drive would not engage at all add we had to go back and forth on the road before it would engage.

They should have never done away with the stick shift transfer cases its possibly the cellinoid switch (can't spell) in the tranfercase it might be bad, i had a similar problem on a 2000 Chevy 1500 only mine stoped working all together.
