3" Angled Lift Block Question

Hey Guys, I have a question about a 3" lift i am going to do to my 87 chevy. i am going with blocks because it is cheap and quick. plus i just want to make some more room for bigger tires.
so here is my question. i have a set (2 blocks) of 3" aluminum angled blocks. I was wondering if i should get the angled blocks for the front also or if i should just go with the standard block. the reason i ask is because of the front drive shaft. i dont want to chew up my u -joints fast.
so if anyone can help that would be great..
thanks for the help Jim

Never use blocks in front end. Spacers are a big taboo up there. They increase spring wrapup and can cause strange handling problems. Angle front axle to improve ujoint angle is even worse because it throws axle caster out of whack which effect handling and tracking. The only safe way to improve this angle is to have center housing cut at welds and then rotated up on axle tubes and then rewelded. This is not cheap but it maintains proper axle caster angle. In rear, angle blocks are better tolerated.

you will have no drive shaft or u-joint issues with the front of the 87 @3", the pinion angle doesn't need to be changed.
like sno said... no block up front.. ever.. for reasons other than the pinion angle.
you can gain 3" up front by adding 1 or 2 rear arched leafs from an old pack to your existing front leafs. it'll ride kinda on the rough side...

Thats interesting what you say about rotating the front axle with shims, I got a BDS 6" with no blocks but they came with shims for the front and back I installed them that was around 20,000km ago everything seems fine but I have been told the truck dog tracts to one side I don't think its bad just a couple inches, could the too be related?

possibly, the shims are usually aluminum and wear, then the u-bolts are left loose. unless ya have a full time 203 t-case, theres no need to mess with the front driveshaft angle. correct caster is far more important.
the forces on a front axle from lifting over 4" and big tires realisticly warrants the need for a track bar on the front axle.
if you look at a few lifted solid axle chevy's, you'll notice alot of em have bent shackles up front, so a shackle type lift is out also..

yeah wats up with that? how come there arn't small shackle lifts for chevys? i would love to have used like 2 inc shackels with 2 inc springs to achinve 4 inc of lift, softer ride and more articulation would be the benifits right?? whats so hard about adding a track bar if its needed?
solid axle chevys cant be beat 78 K5: 350 V8,700r4,np208, 8 lug D44 4:88, 14 bolt 10.5 4:88 with detroit locker and 35 inc parenelli jones dirt grip tires

it's because the shackles just bend. some of the stock pu's running around have bent stock shackles. if you were to make some they need to be a 1/2" thick reinforced shackles. the forces on there are unreal just from daily driving.
