Anybody out there have a hypertech power programmer for a '06 chevy/gmc? I wanna calibrate my speedo, etc, but Im too cheap to cough up the $300+ for one. I figure this is one of those things yer only gonna use once, maybe twice and somebody may wanna unload one or maybe rent me one. I thought about buyin on from autozone and then returning it but they wont take it back if its opened.

Try E-bay for a cheaper price. BTW, those tuners "marry" themselves to vehicle VIN and they cannot be used on another one unless you unload "tune/tweaks" for current vehicle so you cannot share it. Also, when you install a tune, a dealer scan will erase it usually and then your tuner cannot even talk to it to reprogram it because it is looking for a tune on that VIN. So, you want to remove tune BEFORE you take it to dealer for anything and replace tune afterwards. (yes they scan them even when your not in there for scan items, kinda a make work thing) BTW, I have been using a HyperTech tuner for many years on my 2000 K3500 and I like being able to tweak speedo with it. I also use tune too and in order to get the most out of a tune, you need better than 87 octane gas too (also for what it is worth, if you run a few tanks of 89 or better through your stock tuned truck, you will find it runs better even before a aftermarket tune. This is because of the knock sensing spark retard feature of that engine to limit consumer complaints on low octane fuel. The problem is it takes power and MPG with it too.

Thanks, SnoMan, thats good stuff right there. So much for getting off cheap! I'll try that trick with the 89octane too. I'm hoping to get at least a little sumthin extra out of the tune, These 5.3 Vortecs ain't exactly known for their neck snappin', right?

I got the ProComp tuner (made by Hypertech). What a dissapointment. The tire size only went to 34" and gear size only went to 4:56. I talked to customer support and they said, "that is the limit of your computer." BTW, heads up to anyone interested in this programmer;PC3200 for 1996-2006 GM trucks/SUV's with 35's or larger and own an '01 Yukon, don't do it!

Actually there is a work around here. If you use the right combo of tire size and axle ratio combo you can get speedo dead on. Example, in overall ratio, a 4.88 with 36's and 38's with 5.13's is close to 34's with a 4.56.If you try combos of tire sizes and axle ratio in programmer you can fool ECM to read correctly.

What I was saying is that the programmer did not allow for tire sizes larger than 34" or gears lower than 4:56.

I know but what I was saying is that if you use the right combo of tire size and axle ratio in programmer (meaning different than what is on vehicle) you can fool the ECM to read the correct road speed.
