was just thinking about it and saw these online. is it conceivable if you are willing to deal with any quirkiness, or is it simply not safe?

Air shocks used to be a really big thing 30 years ago. They kinda faded out somewhat. If you get a quality unit and do not need to run it at max pressure all the time to get desired effect (so they have some reserve) they should have no problems on the street.

i had an air suspension setup on my old mountain bike and it was freakin awesome, of course my scout is heavier but why not right. i would be kind of skeptical for a daily driver but for the occasional trip to work or to a local trail i was kinda thinking they would be alright.

They were VERY common in 70's and into 80's. They are very reliable if like a said you do not run them at max pressure all the time.

hey guys i am not talking about the overload shocks you put on the back of a truck, i mean the air shocks that are used in rock crawlers.

OMG  im so embarresed...lol... so your talking about the rock crawling kinda air shocks.......hmmm on the steet?? i ve got no experice with them but my best bet is that they would be too soft and wallowy on the street for a comfortable stable ride.....

On those shocks I agree that they would be too soft and lack positive damping control for street.

Really? See I'd think they would be fine on the street. Just pump up the pressure in them to increase the spring rate and you'll get rid of the wallow, unless you want to run real low, then it will be annoying.

Honestly, you'd be better off in most all regards by running a 2.0" coilover instead.

Ive been curious bout these too, the fox 2.5 is said to be able to support the rear end of my blazer and front! But for now just the rear and i have a 4 link all fabbed up and the links ready to throw in, just waitin on the shocks..... Coilovers are so expensive and these are fairly reasonable. It is also driven on the road quite a bit, but i heard if you add a sway bar contraption no prob... Any opinions ideas any one tried em out PLEASE???
