i need a little push in the right direction. i have a 2001 f350 4x4 w/tow package. my 4x4 truns on from the inside of the cab w/a selector switch.i used to hear a loud clunck from the transfer case when i would turn on the 4x4 but now my 4x4 is not coming on and it's making a low clicking sounds.also the 4x4 indicators in the dash board won't come on but they do come on when i first start the truck. could i have a defective transfer case shift motor?
thxs for the help,

i'm not familiar with your setup. check to see if there is a vacuum line on the front axle, were the motor would be. could be it's not connected or cracked

My buddy has a 2003 F-350 and his doesnt work eather so he just gets out with a wrench and turns that black circle looking thing on the T-case and that gives him his 4wd. Its a pain to have to do that but I think the problem is just that the moter is bad. I dont know too much about the electrical 4wd systems eather but my buddy's truck basically did the same thing yours did and he says he is just going to replace the moter. Good luck.
It takes big nuts to follow us.

a few friends of mine have had probs with there expeditions doing the same. i believe if it is the same set up there is a sensor or sending unit down there and it gets dirty and wont work. u should look at ur manual and see if it does. if so pull it a part and clean it and should solve prob.

Shift motor sounds bad. Pull it off and give it a good cleaning with electric parts cleaner, I've seen guys with Rangers with the same problem do that and get it going again.
