Headers would add a lot of heat to engine compartment so you might think a bit more about this and focus on rest of exhaust system instead.

You need to consider local laws about emissions also. That truck was born with a cat conv, right? If your state has emissions testing, it has to be there. Most reputable muffler shops won't touch it if you have cut off the cat...big fines here.

YA I agree, look to the emissions laws first.
Now, chevey had some factory tubular exhaust manifolds, from the factory, I dont know if they flow better or not, but worth lookinh into.
2. There are aftermarket headers that have emmision compliant fittings...which leads to high flow cats, which'll help the back pressure dept. I wont speak of back pressure, just know you need some.
small tube headers and 2.5 inch going out the back seems the goin formula for a street driven trucklet. good luck and dont forget to look in Jegs., com Or summit racing, or some other source..Its not a lost cause you know, There is a way to do eveything.
Or.
Iffin your REALLY CRAFTY. run the factory tubes and a single 3 inch pipe! better sound from the turbo
muffler and prolly cheaper too..

Even for a BB, dual 2.5's is a bit overkill. Way overkill with a SB and hurtin more than helping too most of the time.

were I'm at currently there is no emissions. Summit will be the route if I can't find anything decant. I'm wondering about the quality of there exhausts, has anybody used them? If I can get 2 years out of there system that would be great because they are priced really well.

I have purchased thousands of dollars of stuff from Summit over the years. Even the products they sell under their own brand name are top quality.
If you still think you want headers, at least splurge and spend the extra dime for ceramic coated pieces! You can wrap the plain ones but it just burns them up faster, and it's a pain the butt.

I might just find like a 600 tuned set used when I can.  and use the cheap ones for now, One of my manifolds is cracked. I can't drive it like this
