Hey SnoMan; I realy like your ideas about the gearing, But I am having a hell of a time finding the right 14 bolt rear.  My Burb has 56 in. between brake backing plates and 40 in. between spring housings. All the 14 bolt 6 lug units I looked at have 46 in. between springs and the shops all say the only ones that have 4.10 gears are the 2 wheel drives.(I was looking at the 4.10s for right now so I can match the front. Don't have the bucks right now to swap everything.) Everything seams to have the wrong measurements. What year and model had the correct 14 bolt. I can handle the wheels out a little, since the front measures at 59.75 in. I'll just need some cut out flairs. Already have them for the front. Greatly appreciate your input into this problem. Your the first person I've got advice from in the last 8 years that knows about the older Burbs. Everyone else just tells me what will sell what they have.  Believe me, you just made a loyal subscriber!!

It is a pretty easy job to cut off old perches and weld them back on or in your case there may be enough room just to weld new perches on with old ones still present. As far as 2wd or 4 wd drive axle that does not matter and if they are wrong lug pattern simply swap in some used axles with correct lug pattern. Stay away for van axles as they are about 3 to 4 inches wider than P/U rear axles unless that does not bother you. (the 9.5 was used in a lot of 1 ton vans with 8 lugs too)

I think the old 14 Bolts are Strong as hell they are Cheap and really Common. I have a newer one under my 05 but the only differnce is its got a Factory G-80 Locker, its a little different inside and its got rear disc brakes but i've had no problems with it except a rear pinion seal leak and thats not a big problem. got to any junk yard and you'll find one. to find a GM dana 60 front axle well thats not so easy lol
