700r4 transmission fluid leak in 1991 Blazer 4x4

My 700r4 transmission is leaking fluid, but I am not sure where it is coming from, I thought it was leaking from the pan gasket, but after power washing the trans it seems to be leaking from an object (that looks like one of those service bells you see in stores on the counter that you ring for service) directly behind the pan mounted on the housing, I am not sure that it is leaking from there or even what it is, but that is where it seems to be leaking from, Can any one tell me what it is, how to fix it or have any ideas at all. The part is directly under the 4x4 engage shaft. The trans is in a 1991 chevy blazer 4x4 Please help

Sounds like governor housing cover. I cannot be sure without seeing it though.

Does the governor housing cover have a gasket or seal, are there springs in it and how do I remove to replace the seal. Thanx Snowman

Should be a O-ring sealing it. It is not hard to change but you want to be real clean about it.

it has an 0-ring,
they are difficult to remove, tap it out a 1/4" and put a bead of silicone around the o-ring after ya clean off the oil, then tap it back in place,
if you do completely remove it, don't mess with the govorner.

This is not a bad idea and may have some merit in that these seals generally do not leak unless damaged or from case damage from corrosion. The above fix would help with later. You have to really clean area though and remove all traces of oil for this to work those.

I use a thin film of silicone on the new seal when I do an overhaul on em, some covers just dont fit right and are easily damaged from removal.
a shot of brake-kleen followed by a shot of compresed air will take care of the oil film so the silicone will stick so ya don't have to completely remove it.
