Is there anything I can do to Mud proof my alternator??

I have a 89' Cherokee and I took it out muddin and fried my alternator, why would they put the alternator way down low?? But I love muddin and I cant think of anything, I cant jus keep buying a new alternator everytime i want to go have some fun!! What can I do any IDEAHS??

Find a aftermarket MilSpec alternator that is sealed for harsh environments or stay out of mud. No easy fix here.

You might check around online for some boneyards that might have some scrap military vehicles. It uses a Dodge alt.

depending on exactly what your doing, alternator is only the tip of the iceberg.i cant name everything that needs to be waterproofed but the distributor and any fuses need it. my cherokee has cooling problems like all the rest of them and im planning on upgrading to aftermarket rad, at the same time im gonna upgrade my fans to electric with a manual shut of switch, so when i get that deep, dirt and debris (whatevers floating in the river from sticks to fish) dosnt break the fan.

You can't really seal the alternator. It creates heat so it needs vents and the fan on the front of it. However, you can build a stand off mud/water shield for it using something as simple as a plastic milk jug and a few zip ties. Just make sure there is an air gap around where the vents are. You don't want to cover these vents.
