The problem is going to be getting a bell housing and tranny combo to go with this and that will make up to Tcase. I would "suggest" that you scrape this idea and if you want to re-engine it look for a Willys/Buick 225/231 V6. GM sold the complete rights to its V6 to Willys in mid 60's and Willys used it for several years in Jeeps. While is was a Buick design, it was fully owned and made by Willys. After AMC bought out Willys in early 70's they had no need for 225 V6 and GM bought it back around 74 and tweaked it a bit into a 231/3.8. A few years later, GM further tweaked it and gave it a even fire crank and that basic engine is still in use today. Using this motor would simply things a lot and add to value of your Willys because they are rare today and worth more when stock or near stock in drive train. 225 or 231 V6 is a good sturdy proven engine too.

well this is a 42' so she has no v6 in her she still has the flat four which is perfectly fine and powers the jeep just the way it needs to be. the problem is the carb is bad on her which i guess i should be looking for a carb to rebuild i guess. but i just have a 3.8l sittin around just thought it would be nice to have the extra power in the willys not that the four banger doesnt do its job caused ive pulled a four wheel drive trail cutter of a creek before without even the slightest bit of struggle but thats do to the wonderful gears that were placed in their thanks to WWII. maybe ill build a badass tube buggy outta the 3.8 and just rebuild my carb since you say it would be really expensive and alot more complicated

The Go Devil 134 four cylinder is what got Willys the contract for the Jeep It was better than any other engine of its type in that day (more power)and sealed the deal for Willys against competitors.

So,so,so, much misinformation here!!!

The Ford 3.8 V-6 has the SAME bellhousing as the small block Ford(but uses metric bolts). There were some 1/2 ton Ford trucks in the early 80's that used the 3.8 with manual transmissions, so manual flywheels are out there. There surely must be an affordable way to adapt that three speed to a ford bellhousing- I bet others have done it with 289/302's many times.

Take the above as FACT, but the following is open to debate, as I do'nt claim to be an expert on jeep history-
Willys (and Ford) got the contract because the military deemed Bantam to not have the manufacturing capacity to meet their demands. If I am not mistaken, they picked the Bantam vehicle design (basically stolen from Ford I might add) but shut them out of the deal.
