82 K5 - 350 motor - turbo400 - 38" tires - 10" lift.
Tranny is shot. After reading other posts I assume the gears are at fault. What gear set would you recommend? Also how do I tell what is currently on it? Truck is not a daily driver, only needs to get me boarding in the deep snow.

I would say at least 4.88's here. 5.13's if you are at a high altitude. You are correct on stock gears toasting tranny. It forces it to ride stall a lot and slow bakes tranny.

Thanks for suggestion. As I am new to the 4x4 world, how do I tell whats currently equiped? Also where would I find info on what vehilcles have these gears stock, so I can rip them off a junk truck? While not broke, I would like to make this a budget vehicle. Any other tips or links to helpful site would be great.

There is a sticker in glove box that will have a option code for axle ratio. It will be like GU6, GT4 or GT5.  (3.42, 3.73. 4.10) You are not going to likely find 4.88 or 5.13 gears in a junk yard truck. The only place you might find them would be in a late 60's or 70's 1 ton P/U with 4x4 as it could be had with 4.56 or even a 5.13 back them. A 4.56 was a HC4 code and a 5.13 was a HC7 code. GM offered used 4.56 a lot in dualies up till 99 body style change over and a 4.88 was used some too on specail order (it was a HF8) and also a 5.13 a bit too same way. Nothing deeper than 4.10 after style change.
