I traded my truck for a 91 YJ with a 3" lift and 31X10.5X15 BFG AT's.  Plans are to put a 4" lift and 33's under it.

Had me an old YJ - to this day, I regret getting rid of it.

YJ were better "Jeep's" than any one made after them. The old 4 corner leafs on that Jeep made it that way. If I got another Jeep today it would be a YJ or older model.

welcome home brother!!! if it doesn't already have one, ya might wanna look into a d40 rear if you go to 35" tires tho. i run a 95 yj and my wife runs a 99 tj......i know snowman, i got the better one of the 2, but that coil setup on the 4 corners is nice......lol

The 4 coils make it more of a car and less of a Jeep too.

I agree I like leafs better as well, altough I had a 2006 tj and the coils aren't bad on a vehicle as light as a Jeep. Now that new Dodge 1500 with the rear coils, I don't know what they were thinging.

They were thinking same thing as they were with Jeep. Trying to make it ride more like a car for sales than a truck.

what are you guys smokin? whatever it is ya think a tj can't do, it's only cuz you've never been in one or had a trailer hooked to the back of one.

I'm not gonna get into the advantages of a fourlink and coils... ride, traction, articulation, stability.. if ya still think otherwise ya need to learn some suspension geometry.
the leafs served their purpose untill a better system came along, ya can't get the tj coil suspension system mixed up with the old willy's that tried it.

a yj is a good chasis to build on the cj has an extremely weak frame and small bumptop hammering leaf spring suspension. when yer tires can't reach the ground ya have no traction, the weak axles don't exactly allow the use of lockers with expectations of them living a long life. can ya spell amc20 2 pieces axles?

i have driven and worked on both types of jeeps and never did like the ride of the cj, but my scout is of course leaf spring front and rear and rides pretty good and the articulation is also quite good on trails. but with that said i was always under the impression that the springs on the cj were always to stiff from the factory and off the shelf aftermarket springs like say superlift or trailmaster made it worse. i think you would need to spend money on a custom set like deaver to make them ride nice and have good articulation. but since i am not a jeep guru or historian i cannot speak on the strength of the frame.

if i were to buy a jeep tho i would go after a tj and more then likely actually get a jk (for my wife not me) because of the ride comfort and performance on the trail.

In the old days you could take a Jeep right off the show room floor and beat it and it would take it with no cheap plastic parts to rip off either. Chrysler civilized it lowered it closer to ground and put a wimpier suspension under it too so it would ride better for yuppies for a car replacement. That is not what a Jeep is about or was created for. Then there is the newest abomination, the 4 door Jeep. A Jeep is not a Jeep anymore.

i disagree, any vehicle that evolves to satisfy the market is fulfilling it's purpose

You are kidding yourself here. The Jeep was promoted into a market that it was never meant to fill and was morphed into something that it never was supposed to be...
