Wiring issues

I have a 79 Dodge Power Wagon (360) and just to get it running I took a piece of wire and wrapped it around the + post on the battery and the other end to the ignition coil.  It fired up just fine and ran for about 7 minutes until we shut it down.  I went back out about a week later and it fired up but wouldn't stay running (I was working on figuring out what I needed to do to fix up the fuel system).  The more and more I tried to get it running the less it would catch when I turned it over.  I know the fuel system works good because I replaced a lot of parts just to freshen up the truck, since it has sat for 3 years.  I had the ignition coil tested by Auto Zone and it was good, and I replaced the ignition control module.  When I attach that piece of wire to the + post and to the ignition coil, a few seconds later I heard sizzeling.  I'm not sure what that's all about but I know that somewhere in there I am supposed to wire up a ballast resister.  The problem is that there are 2 resistors and I can only find the wiring for one of them, which I went ahead and hooked up.  The resister that I hooked up is sitting on the drivers side just behind the tire well and the other one that is not hooked up is also on the driver side as well but on the fire wall.   The wiring in this truck looks like a squrrel arranged it.  I am assuming that since everything used to work and that the truck does turn over but just doesn't catch then there must be an issue with the cap and rotor or soemthing that deals with the spark.  Plugs and wires look almost brand new.  I am not sure what the issue is.  I was also wondering if anyone know how to re wire up that resistor that I can't find the connections to.  Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated because as soon as I get the wiring figured out and 3" blocks installed all the way around this Dodge boy will be out pulling people out of the mud!
