So I have a '64 F100 that currently has a SBC 350 with Turbo 350, 4x4, 6 inch lift.
I also have an 89 F350 with EFI 460 and C6.

Was wondering about feasability of swapping the 460/C6 into this truck.  I figure I'd need to beef up suspension, probably swap out axles, etc. Would anyone care to comment on this situation? Am I out of my mind here? Pete

I like it when guys keep a Ford a Ford, a Chevy a Chevy, etc. I'd say it's entirely do-able. Obviously the motor mounts are entirely different with the current SBC, the BB Ford doesn't weigh all that much more than the SBC so the 'spension is probably fine. what about a transfer case?

While I believe in keeping a ford a ford and so on since someone has already chopped it up I would use a 396 or 454 in it. It is basically a bolt in now and has same bell housing bolt pattern as 350.

Hmmmm......

Yeah, the guy I bought it from really chopped it. the radiator has a dual electric fan on the outside, zip ties holding the throttle linkage, and - at the time - the motor was mounted using 3 - 3/4 inch nuts to space between the mounts and the engine. It did have a sweet FORD Taurus steering wheel complete with cruise control buttons. (I inquired during the sale if they worked. I think he thought I was serious...)

SO there is a transfer case which is currently disconnected from the shifter - not on purpose, the bailing wire that he used for linkage finally broke. seriously.

I was wondering about the 460/C6 because I have this F350 dually which i can't seem to unload (amazing given the 9 mpg and $4.50 gallon gas) but the alternatives are interesting given the turbo 350 is fresh rebuild. What about mounting for the c6 vs the 350?

wow bailing wire shifter!! thats..... wow...... its..........the worst mickey mouse fix ive ever heard off. but i think you should stick in the 460/c6, for one 460 means big block power, two the c6 is stout transmission and also it would be a ford in a ford
solid axle chevys cant be beat

Uh...how many beers did you have when you bought this? Seriously, I'd put the 460/C6 in, you'll have to beef up the suspension as you stated earlier, but you'll also have to beef up the frame, box the frame at least in the engine compartment area, if not the whole frame. What you planning on for a t-case?
