I have a 78 shortbox and i would like some ideas and or opinions. Right now it is just placed together not even bolted. I would like to have opinions on what kind of suspension, how big is too big for a short box, and how do i make it able to do mud and rocks? I have lots of "help" from my boyfriend and his friends, but they don't really listen to what i want. They don't do rocks just mud, and i want to do both. I would like the set up to be strong and flexible but easy enough that i can fix it. I am able to do lots of things by my self (mechanics) but, well... help what should i do?

I am not a chevy person ...but always willing to help a fellow wheeler. First what does your rig have for a drive line? Secound (and a big one) how much money are you willing to invest and how crazy with this do you want to get? You might be suprised what just a few trips to the local junk yard and a little creative thinking can get you. As far as the dash.. do ya want the truck to be stock looking or you going with custom ?? Aluminum always works well.I have a freind that made a dash from some polished diamond plate, looks cool but the sun reflection is killer. My overall opinion is go big.. big axles, big power, But plan out what ya want to do with your truck. Mud generaly takes big power, rocks needs flexibility and proper gearing ( power is nice but not a must have )

I just got back from browns camp and my step side is set up for the mud and rocks. I find that 40" tires, a 4 speed, and a slightly built small block is a killer combo for a multi- purpose rig. the gears is where you want to think hard, do you want to drive to the wheelin spot or do you trailer it every where? Personally i would go with 4.11 to 4.56 gears so you can drive to the spot without running 3000 rpm on the highway. anyway post some pics of your progress and show us what you got. happy wheelin
