every so often i get a clank where from i could not tell you not the motor and my joints are nice and tight... the noise comes of and on when i drop a gear *not hard* push the cluch in... or starting out a gear. i tried to rock the truck and hear the noise but of coarse it wont make one... any ideas as to what the hell it is...kinda scares me, not gonna lie

Do you just hear it or feel it too? BTW, it 4x4 with a manual you can clunk a bit at times of drive line torque loads and unloads and takes up slop/play.

well i feel it a little and its not a quite clank. i just wish i could pin point it but its to hard when im driving you know.

Clunks are hard to find without actually seeing the vehicle.
One thing I would try is to grease the slip yolk. Rangers did this same thing very bad for a long time.

it does this right when it engages a gear... i dont know ill look into it a little more.

I had the same thing happen to me in my 88 burb. Tried to find it in the driveline then the axle, tranny and could not find any problems. So i laid under it and had a buddy shift into drive so hopefully i could see the prob. It ended up being bad bushings in the springs, i replaced them and it went away almost compleatly. What I feel now i assume is normal for an auotmatic? But diffrence was night and day. Don't know if this could be your prob but maybe...
