The TTB front axle you have is known to get sloppy with age. Check radius arm bushings and all steering linkages for wear/play.

TTB was Fords name for its front drive swing axle design. It stood for "Twin Traction Beam" which sounds more impressive than what it really is. On tranny you should have a AOD or  a E4OD. They are considered a 3 speed automatic with automatic OD. It would not of had just a 3 speed in 91.

from what im lookin at its just a 3 speed. and the onlything writtin on the tranny is F21. i dont no how it would be a 3 speed with overdrive because on the colum it just has 1 2 drive. and 4.56 gears would lose me alot of top in power and my gas milage would be gone. my dad used to have 4.56s on his drag car and he took them out fast his car toped out way befor the 3/4 mile marker at the strips

AOD did not have a OD detent in shifter. Also AOD bypasses torque converter in top too gear and contributes to lack luster performance.

Hey, never feel stupid just because it is not obvious. Sometimes things are just not as they seem. (Detroit is good for that)

When you hear me talk about regearing it is because no only does it give you more power with big tires it also takes a lot of strain off tranny and drive train and then you do not have to worry about trannies going out and Ujoints' and drive shafts failing and also you will not always need low range off road either.

AOD's are not the smoothest shifters because the loose torque converter above second which cushions shifts some normally. WHen it goes into 3rd it is shifting and locking up at same time. It is a bit of a strange tranny but not generally unreliable either.

ok um i just talked to the owner and apparrently the truck was used for abouta year on the farm for haulin hay and they said they had a stage 3 automatic shift kit for haulin and stuff would that be the reason the tranny is so stiff to me? also my 4x4 high switch works but when i push 4 low nothing happens is the switch wire maby fallin out or would it be more? i havnt had time to look yet but im guessin its two seperate wire harness's and 1 probly got pulled out if the 4 high works.

I  am not as well versed on Ford push button shift Tcases as GM but they should work similarly. There is a control switch, a encoder/servo motor on Tcase and a control unit the switch is wired to and the control unit runs servo. One of the first things to check is the switch itself. Also I shift kits, many like them but I am not a fan of them and remain to be convinced that they extend service life of tranny because usually if anything they can sometimes shorten it because of the added strain that harsh shifts can place on its internal components.

alright do you think that shift kit is the cause of the hard shifting and stuff.

the shift kit is responsible for the hard shifts. what happens is it boosts the fluid presure in the tranny so the gears shifts quicker. auto trannys have clutchs and act like a cluch on a stick shift or on a dirt bike. When the fluid presure is boosted by the shift kit it forces the clutchs to slip less. that lack of slippige means harder shifts. VS when in its stock form the clutchs would slip more to alow a smoother shift
