a buddy has a bunch of these, im guessing late 70's wagoneers that are rotting away so i could probably get one for cheap, i was wondering what axels these came with? i tried wikipedia but no axel info on the wagoneers. i would guess probably dana 44's or something similar,  would these be a good swap into my cherokee.

All Wagoneers and full size Cherokees had D44's front and rear their entire production span. Jeep 44 also had thicker axle tubes than GM, Ford and Dodge 44's. If you get one to restore you need to check frame in rear and they are known to rust through in front of rear axle.

sorry snoman... i have to disagree... some did come with a corporate 20 rear axle... which is a P.O.S. weak 2 piece axle setup
It's easy to spot because of the round dif cover...

d44's and some have amc20 rears. the snag in the rear is its off set to the passenger side, and can make a driveshaft issue.

the amc 20 has a larger ring gear than the d44, though they have weak tubes and smaller axle shafts, one piece kits makit a pretty decent axle as long as ya don't hammer on it.

the d44's make excellent upgrades and swaps for the XJ.

you'll be running real bearings and locking hubs up front, the wheels from the xj won't fit unless ya do some hub swapin up front and a axle shaft change in the rear.

some guys even 86 the front coils on the xj in favor of leafs.

Must not have been many of them with AMC 20's in them. Seen a lot of 20's in CJ's though. Jeeps that had a offset rear axle had a Qtrac Tcase in them. I had a 78 Cherokee for bit and it had Qtrac and D44 front and rear (offset in rear) My 79 J20 has Qtrac and a offset D60 in rear. BTW, easily to spot a AMC 20 because of gland nut on hub/axle.
