ok ok i know QUIT DRINKING THE CAFFIENE! My neighbor was talking smack about how fast his rice burner is ya its faster than me an you...combined,he say ohh yaaa? lets see you make a fast front wheel drive...hmm so i gots the idea, put a dana 60 in front and the motor in the bed of a pickup, put reverse rotation gears in the pumpkin along with a detroit locker. SO now i have an indestructable front wheel drive, maybee,no broken half shafts, all the traction i need the rear axle is just there to hold the truck up. now were being NAUGHTY! think it'll work?

Hmmm...you could, but that'd be about as strange as swapping independent rear suspension into a Jeep Wrangler. Doing mods like that is like competing in the special Olympics. Even if you finish on top, you're still retarded.

However, if you were to do it, don't half ass it. Put a detroit locked-Rockwell 2.5 ton front axle in.
Oh, and couldn't you just get a twin-sticked transfer case and just disengage the rear axle? THen, after you put the FWD rice to shame, you can engage the rear axle and go 'wheeling at the local trail.

Then you would not be able to steer it well with FWD and a locker. You have to be able to maintain different wheel speeds under power so you would have a poor grip on ground in turns. In all fairness why some FWD cars do so well in poor conditions is because of the drive is on axle with weight of engine over it and the CV joints and diff maintains a even power flow even in turns that lets tires keep a good grip on surface.

Yea this was just a late night insomnia attack in full swing uugain..dang fubared back! Totally impractical but possible, maybe rear steer like a forklift? naa.just pull the rear shaft off iff possible n go..me? ide put er in four high and mash the gas! but just think o the looks down on the taco bell parking lot, tell em ya,my axles can handle 2000 lbs of torque and both front tires can spin, you know what would be fun??? torque steer, drop the clutch at 5000 rpm and do a 360, woo hoo? naaa

You may not believe this but when I lived out in MT for a while in 90's I owned two 4x4's (still own them too) and when it was nasty and cold my preferred travel vehicle was a FWD car. It could be 30 below and blowing snow and the FWD never failed me and was far more stable on roads that were ice and snow covered several months during winter too. Made many a 200 mile road trip in it to big city shopping a few times a month. Nice thing about a FWD in such severe weather if that all the running gear was under hood and with a bra on car blocking off most of the air flow through engine compartment the engine and tranny warmed up nicely and ran like it was nice out. This is compared to my 4x4's that felt like they were pulling a drag chute in such cold even with SYN lube in axles and Tcase and a bra on front end too. The FWD was a 4 cyl and it got well over 30 mpg on road even in severe cold and blowing snow on a trip and the 4x4's were lucky to get 10 and usually less.

I think the idea of a fast FWD using D-60 may be overkill. Why not use a JK D-44 instead. You can cut a ton of weight out that way and then upgrade the shafts and u-joints to hold up to the V8s power. The selectable locker would be handy to for turning. Bobby long is coming out with bomb-proof CVs for the JK 44 soon...Maybe cryo-treat the r&p and go race. I'd cheer you on. or just tell your stupid neibor he's lame and go wheeling.
You can do anything you dare to dream.

You can tell Naughty's a truck driver. Having a caffien and nicotein high again are we. As far as the rice burner goes tell him he may beat you on the street, but then lets take the battle offroad. Plus them rice burner guys talk alot of smack until a real car, like a old musclecar, pulls up. Have a Mopar from the late '60s or early '70s show up and see how much smack he talks then!

Back when I had my rig('94 Pete with 550 Cummins,15 speed,64"sleeper, 130mph rig, don't ask!) I used coffee, Mountain Dew and alot of Marlboros. I sure miss that rig, why do ex-wives end up with all the cool toys in a divorce? Especially when she was the one caught doing what she wasn't supposed to be doing. Anyway, that gives me an idea. Naughty, hows about a Peterbuilt drift truck with TRAILER? Think of the carnage!! Trick paint and neon under the rig and trailer. Lower the trailer to about 6" off the ground. Low profile tires and gullwing doors. Wait, hows about a drift duece and half, that way you can give rides to paying spectaters while drifting, what a ride that would be like a roller coaster!!!
