I just got an 84 k5 and was doing a minor tune up on it. when i went to replace the air filter i noticed inside of the regular air filter was another filter glued on to the housing for the air filter. It has some type of media in it and it seems like it is restricting a lot of air flow. anybody have an idea what and why it is there? can i simply remove it also, planning on putting a k&n in it.

thanks

its a spark arrestor/noiseblanker thingy, i took mine out but some state wont have you doing anything change your induction system, my personal opinion is, it is a detriment to the air flow, and mine accidently somehow fell out, despite the near welded consistency of the glue they use,i think there may be a charcoal layer in there to keep emmissions down too.hence the glue, btw any air cleaner will fit the same family of carb,so if you find a taller pre emission type...

thanks for the advice, yeah when i saw it i figured it had to be cutting air flow by a great amount. this blazer just got handed down to me and was not taken care of.

Ya i had an 86,it was on its last legs, but had a little fun while it lasted, i was surprised at hou tight it would turn! my next rig i am debating on getting that eras style or the next tahoe/yukon body style, i would love a tahoe solid axle wagon myself though, i wonder if you could trade bodies without too much fabbing, but dang,'magine having one with the 3/4 ton axles under it with the newer body above it?
welcome to the forum and happy wheelin!

that tahoe sounds nice, definately look into that, the body might not be as wide though. the only good thing about my blazer is that it has a rebuilt 350 engine with only 25k and a new tranny with about 30k on it, i just gotta upgrade the rest now. yeah i have a feeling this forum is really gonna help me along the way, thanks

Great rig, the k5 blazer is an awesome wheeler. I've got a 88 Burb and I love the thing. It will just about go anywhere, and with the shorter wheelbase of a blazer i could only imagine. Any way K&N makes a great filter as most know, but if you dont have it already the drop in replacement for that truck is P/N E-1420. I sell K&N Filters all day long at my shop here. So welcom to the forum and I can honestly say I have gotten more help from this forum than any local shop has been willing to give. Very knowlegeable, great people. Again welcome.

Where's the time to work on MY stuff?
