An '89 Wrangler YJ fell into my lap last weekend and i want to make it look better. it's pretty much all stock and was kept up pretty good. it's an 4.2 I-6 with 131,000 miles, and i wanna put bigger tires on it than the stock ones. thinking 32-33's with a slight lift to clear?..suggestions on how to go about the lift?? (most cost effective)...

new 2" or 3" leaf springs for 32-33" rubber.

ya can get close to 5" by doing a spring over axle swap using yer stock springs. it's not as easy as it sounds though, ya need to weld on new pads and sort out the steering linkage.

I will prob end up doing that, i've got some family mechanics to help..as far as tire size, i'm undecided, what will the stock jeep 15's handle??

on the stock suspension 31x105's are about max, they'll rub some without hurting or tearing up anything.

the wheels themselves are good for 12.5" wide rubber, you'll need some 1" wheel spacers to use em though.

It's 95% street driven bc you can't find much dirt in Ft. Lauderdale!...with that being said, i'm going for the look more than performance offroad. Would the stock suspension handle more than the 31x10.5's with those factors? And i'm unsure what to do first, the tires or the lift?? Thanks for your input thus far!

31x10.5 is all ya want to go on stock suspension and wheels.

a little trimin and ya ca go bigger, then without a gear change mileage and performance will stink.

ok...been doing some figurin'...as i said, i'll hardly ever be off the pavement, unless I'm searching for a better parkin spot ha..but i have a good connection for 15x8 3.75" BS Amer Racing wheels and would like to put BFG T/A 32x11.5's on them...would those match up with a Rocky Road Budget lift (2" shackles, 1" body) on the ole YJ?? And would that lift really do much for a higher/beefier look?? I'd like to get a tire/rim that will atleast make use of those wide fenders! not really concerned about mileage/perf...just a fun ride around w/ the lady...thanks!!
