I want to swap the 22R for a 4.3 v6 and a 700r4. Is there one vehicle that I can get all the parts off of (ie engine trany and xcase)and what would I have to do for drive shafts. This was the only truck I ever bought new (before kids) and now that the kids are done with it I get to play. Does anyone still put out a lift for the indy front suspension.
Please help

Yes, Total Chaos builds some good kits still, I believe. You may also want to consider LC Engineering's New Turbo kit for the 22RE instead of a V-6 Swap. It may be more affordable and produce similar results.

You can do anything you dare to dream.

Which engine did you decide to go with?  I have a 87 Toy PU that I plan to put a 4.3 vortec and a 4l60E in it, and I have the 22rte turbo in it now. I know I can build up the turbo engine, but the 4.3 would do better on MPG and I like automatics better.

I have a 87 4x4 Toy pickup with the 22RTE turbo motor with a 5 speed that I want to swap in a 4.3 V6 Vortec and a 4L60E.  I know I can soup up the turbo motor, but I need as much weight as possible up front without all the problems of a V8 conversions.  I have over 5,000 lbs in the back of my Toy since it's a motor home, and even under the mildest 4 wheeling, the front wheels come off of the ground.  I have purchased the $10 book from Downey, checked out Northwest off road, and have the Advance Adapters book also.  I using a 2004 V6, and there is really no info on a motor that new, all of the info I have is for 85-97 V6's.  There's also confliting info about which exhaust manifold or header to use and the same for the oil pan.  Has anyone actually done this conversion, and what kit did you use and what problems did you run into  Thanks

I wondered how much boost the Yota would take?
And a V6 swap candidate? why the psyclone/typhoon turbo v6,ya can boost the wee out of it and FLY though the mudhole.
Or the Ttype v6,and boost the wee out of it to make a thousand horses..WooHoo!
maybee....

How do you figure a large V-6 will do better on economy than a turbo 4-cyl? Stay out of it and that 22ret has the potential to do 30+ mpg

The best MPG I ever got was 14 MPG, normal is 10 MPG.  The motorhome weighs 7,000 lbs and is a barn door in the wind for aerodynamics.  The turbo 4 can bearly pull it over passes, top speed 30 MPH(I live at 9,000 ft).  The V6 has a lot more torque, and I wouldn't have to punch it as much and my milage would go up.  I would agree with you in a empty pick up that weighs 3200 lbs, and isn't 10 ft tall like my motorhome is.

All is not as it seem with turbo motors. Generally with a turbo motor you run lower CR to limit detonation under boost and this reduces efficiency as far as energy extracted and converted to work. A somewhat bigger engine without a turbo and higher compression should yield better average MPG.
