Whether or not to purchase a trailer extended warranty?

I just purchased a 2008 Jayco Octane and I pick it up next week.  I know they are going to try to sell me the extended warranty.  I would like to know how many trailer owners have actually used this after the manufacturers warrany has expired.  I wonder if keeping the $2,000 or so in the bank would be a better gamble than giving it away upfront and maybe never needing it.

It would depend on length of extended warranty and what it pays for and how much you plan to use trailer. Given that trailer manufactures like Detroit is driven more and more every year to cut costs and use cheapest parts possible it could be a wise idea. They do not build the quality in like they used to long ago.

We go to the desert quite often during the season, so it will get some good use.  I just want to be prepared when they try to sell me.  I'm a little afraid of all the automatic things, like the bed, awning, generator, etc.  But, for the cost of the warranty, would we be able to fix these on our own?  Just wanted to see how many people out there really utilize their warranties.

Never had a trailer extended warranty but I have had them on my trucks/SUV's and has saved me a chunk of change. My last new one a 2000 K3500 had a lot of issues under extended warranty.  I paid about $800 for extended warranty and got that back a few times over. Give that with a TT there is a lot of stuff to go wrong and nothing on a trailer is cheap to fix it could be nice if it covers you for several years with little or no deductible. If it has a high deductible per claim it might not be worthwhile.

Yeah, take the extended warranty. It may seem expensive nothing sucks more than your generator taking a crap 2 days after manafacturer warranty expires(know from experiance).

I suggest getting it too... if you can afford it it will be worth the peace of mind knowing that you are covered. We all know how rough the desert can be on gear.
