You have a 8.5/10 bolt. The 8.6, as it is sometimes called,is same axle with graded axle shafts (in 91) so do not let name confuse you as ring and pinion are the same/will interchange. I might add that they is not need to change bearings if axles are running quiet and it makes setup easier too because you do not have to worry about new bearing preload. You do need shims and seals and a crush sleeve too or "mini" install kits

The late model 700R4 are pretty sturdy really. They morphed into a 4L60E in 93 (which is a 700R4 with a electronic valve body) and around 96 they started cutting a few corners with it and had valve body and planetary hub drum issues. (the later haunted it up until 2003 or so) What kills 700R4's is heat. Many do not realize that when they run them in OD with tall gears the tranny rides torque converter stall a lot because converter output shaft RPM is low because of overall gearing and tranny slow bakes doing it. Deeper gears (like you are doing) gets it off stall sooner and reduces needed torque load when on stall so tranny runs a lot cooler. A small aux tranny cooler is a good idea (about 6" x 14" or so) and you plumb it is series where oil flows through radiator tank cooler then aux cooler. You do not want to get too big of one because it can over cool and get sluggish in cold weather and you do not want to bypass tank cooler either. Ideal tranny temp is around 180 give or take a bit and there is no benefit in life expectancy running it a lot colder as it can increase build up of moisture in tranny and make fluid too thick for smooth operation and proper lubing. Tank cooler not only cools tranny but helps stabilize temps too. One more thing, stay away from shift kits because all is not how it seems with them. Shift are modulated to lessen shock loads on internal tranny parts and clutch surfaces and extend their life. Shift kits have been known to tear sprages out of 700R4's and those and drum splines on 4L60's. You can argue that you can beef those parts up to take added shock but then it also places shock on other parts. If I really wanted to beef up a 700R4 you could install 6 roller sprags and 6 pinion planetaries. (stock are 3) These parts are used in a 4L65E that came out in 2005 or so. Even still I would not modify shift much. Keep it cool and with proper axle gears it will hold up fine.

I was wondering do you think USA standard gears are alright for the pounding or should i spend the extra 100 bucks for the Yukon hardcore gears

No need to spend extra coin as they will do fine. Motive makes a good gear too. I would tend to stay away from Richmond gear as they tend to be a bit noisy. You want a 8620 alloy for gears when possible more than anything else here as it is tuff and wears well. US gear and Motive use that as does Yukon.

Be sure to post what you think of your "new" truck after you regear it.
