If i built chassis "X" and was able to accomodate any 4 wheel drive train fron any model or year of truck... to be able to test a set up, who would win??? coil, leaf combo's whatever, 3 catagories 1. New 2000 and up 2. long hair 80 to 2000 3. old fart ??? to 1980 this test chassis would eliminate weight length, hight, etc, ballast would equalize to 2000 lbs ok KISS,,, at first only half tons, whatchu think?

Really I don't see there being any difference at all... most auto companies have been using the same axle/transfercase combo since the dawn of time. Really the only changes have been the electronic gizmos that go along with it like VSC and TC, but in your equation those wouldn't matter.

i was just curios, guess that might have been closer along the lines i was thinkin! the elctronic v. the standard. maybe also ...say a quadratrac equipped frame vs a blazer drive train? or a land rover set up v. jeep rubicon? you know what i was getting at already, but the electrics were in the back of my head, thanks!

Well, you said assume 1/2 tons and compare year ranges, in that case I'd say not much would be different.
But if you take say a Jeep drive system and place it against a Blazer drive system in the same chassis then you have something. That could get real interesting really fast.

Ya i was starting with any system, but how do ya equalize the heavier 3/4 and 1 tons, i was thinkin a same spring rate across the board, but,ya still have the same thing just heavyer. i guess then,it would be the whole combo, like you said jeep v blazer, quadratrac v 203-205? then have the best axle combo avaliable from the factory, thats where the electronics get in, and also, aside from the somewhat exotic stuff, how bout a unimog system,a land cruiser system,a bmw(what?) porche,(what what??) any mfg welcome in a somewhat even field, hey maybe mogzilla would donate its drivetrain for a day? kidding doc franco... but even a hyundai would be able to compete. i dont know, maaybe its not such a hot idea after all, what would happen if a zuke was able to out wheel a jeep? maybee....

even down to a subaru and the amc eagle setup... and a humvee suspension without the weight... that could be interesting...question is... are you going to use the same engine and tire size in every one... same axle gear ratio... it would make for an interesting comparison on how everything reacts to terrain and whatnot... but it'd be a very extensive field to test...

Oops ,didnt think of that, engine wise, every thing else..yes 300 horses on a zuki drive train WOULD really be interesting, body armour not included. hmm best engine? 401 ina jeep?4.0-4.2? 304,231? 454 ina chevy 427,402,396,400 down to the 208? 300 i6 to the 460 in a ford 440 down to ? and on and on, whew where would it end? or rather ,where would it begin? any ideas? an electric motor of some kind would be the medicine, can do the variable torque job, but ... ok guys its crunch time, lets git the nuggits together
