I have a 97 jeep grand cherokee. Every time I come to a stop the idle drops and the car dies out. I changed the TPS and it still does the same thing. However, not as much as before. Does any one know what might be the problem? Thanks.

could be a simple vacuum leak

I would try changing CPS (crank position sensor) Without good data from it, your car is DOA. As they age they can weaken and produce low output at lower speeds and cause it to die.(it works on magnetic reluctance from a encoder wheel on crank) CPS controls ignition timing and without it there is no ignition. It is arguable the single most important sensor on your engine. It could be a vacuum leak to as suggested above but given age a CPS change would be wise because when it fully dies it will leave you cussing and walking.

CPS's can do that and I have seen them not code too. It develops a pulse signal each time magnetic field is altered by encoder wheel but the average signal level can degrade as CPS ages for many heat cycles and get to point that the output level is just at level the the system will recognize and as it "flirts" above and below that level, you can get intermittent operation. Also by its nature or operation, the signal level is lowest at low RPM's and that is why it can run sometimes but will tend to stall or be hard to start.

Have you had any battery issues? Or a Dead battery?
The only reason I ask is, I run a 97 Grand Cherokee and have run into that same issue everytime I drain the battery after long and hard winch pulls or after it as sat a while and I try to crank it over to find the battery is dead.
What I have found happens is it will run like that for a little while then get better. I am no mechanic but I know on some vehicles when you clear codes by disconnecting the battery and turning the key over a couple times this will also clear the vehicle computer and from what I remember it has a learning curve over a few hundred miles to dial back in.
I am sure someone will correct me if this is entirely in accurtate but I have this issue come and go and it centers around the battery for me...

Yep! I had a 98 Dodge with a magnum V8 that did that everytime I left the domelight on overnight at work. And yes I did it more than I should admit. I had to jump start it and tear out down the interstate until it made a "drive cycle".

I dont know if this has been mentioned (im too lazy to read)...
If it has a lock up torque converter on it and it is not disengaging when you come to a stop it will do just that.
If you want to look at the tranny there will be a 2 wire plug plugged into it (not sure on that model how many plugs there are) if you feel comfortable unplug it and see if it "fixes" it. I had a cavalier that had that happen and i just unplugged it and lost about 2MPG... I really wasnt worried about it so i never did get it fixed.
