That's how i see it, but...and it's a big but,...it sure is cheaper to build a chevy sb. you can build a killer stroker chevy for like, the change in the ashtray. no, forget i said it. lets just hope he can save the Jeep 360. and hey, Buick eng's, Mopar BB, Ford all have the ga-stribiders up front. that's so ya get a finger caught in the fan setting the timing. dryin it out is half the fun. silicone spray helps some.

I can tell you first hand that I have seen no 350 that can match the lower RPM grunt and response of a AMC 360. It is a bear right off idle. In the 22 plus year I have owned it it has NEVER failed to start and run well. Even after sitting in the barn for a year without running it fires up and runs smoothly on old gas.

I can vouch for that one to Sno...the dude I bought the cherokee from said its been sitting for about a yr w/out being run and I had to hook the fan pulley back together and put a battery in it and a gallon of gas and the damn thing fired up! and it did run pretty good, loud cause my ear heard a real bad exhaust leak that turned out to be the rod but yeah the low end TQ, holy crap! MY jeep was sitting in a 3FT snow bank and as it was idling I wondered if i stuff it in drive, will it climb out or just sit there so I put it in fwd and i didnt even touch the foot pedal and with the low end tq the cherokee JUMPED over the snow bank it seemed! I was amased that I did that w/out any gas! So I hope it salvagable...wish me luck!

Those old 360's are stump pullers and feel bigger than their size in low rpm torque. At times it is more like a big V8 tractor motor more than a car/SUV motor.

a little off topic, but btw, a few months ago HotRod did a whole article(complete with dates and drawings) about the return of AMC. I got so excited i nearly peed. Did anybody else hear that? was it all a vicious hurtful April fools joke?

No, I heard it too several months ago. They are coming back with mostly econo boxes as I heard it as market is ripe for them. When you think about it they are in a good position to do it if they have capital because they can start from scratch rather than trying to retool and cut costs over and over.

On intake I would have to see what is available on carb at 500CFM would be more than enough. Bigger is not better. A 360 at 5000 RPM only needs about 470 CFM (assuming 90% volumetric efficency which will more likely be 80% at best or meaning it will need only about 420 CFM which means a 500 is more than enough)

the story i read about AMC was this "gazillionaire" bought all the rights, etc from chrysler around the time the germans bailed out. he originally wanted to build a modern AMX but wound up getting all of it. he showed drawings of his idea for the new AMX, a javelin, gremlin, pacer, and even an ambassador. the article said he already has a plant being renovated in Kenosha and broke ground in California for a 2nd plant. he plans to keep it all american, union and all. somebody up in Wisconsin know about the old plant in kenosha hiring?

It will not last and in a day or so it will be like it never happened. I remember a spring in 74 when I was stationed in SD for a bit we had a big blizzard around 1st of may. It was a white out for a day and cars were hump in snow in lot. 3 days later it was 80 and not a snowflake in sight and parking lot looked like it had never snowed. It had been in 60 and 70 before storm and ground was warm and when warm air came back it disapeared real quick.
