I have a bone stock 1977 GMC Jimmy with a 350 in it.  Snoman,  I was recently viewing some posts in which you recommend a comp cams 260h cam for great torque and efficiency, with a good dual plane intake and 550 cfm carb.  My question is will stock 350 heads (pressed rocker studs) handle almost double the lift .    Going from .26 to .440 inches lift  I just wonder if screw in studs are the way to go while it's apart.  Thanks!

You have misinterpreted the lift. The first is the lobe lift on a stock cam and second is valve lift on Comp Cam. Rockers have a 1.5 to 1 ratio so a .26 lobe lift equals a .39 valve lift. The lobe lift on comp cam is about .295 and this is a not a issue at all for stock valve gear.

Thanks Snoman.  I'll give it a shot, with soon to be $4.00 plus a gallon for gas, if I can get more torque and economy at the same time it seems foolish not to!

also for the best power and economy be sure your cruise rpm is in the range recomended for the cam...the 260 if memory serves is about 2200 @65,

I've had good economy with the crane cams 262-2nc even at 2800rpm running 38.5's ..

you know, i hate to mention this, but, if the government really wanted to control mileage they could go back to 55mph speed limit...i tried that the other week going to my dads about 125 miles away and drove between 55 and 60 mph and saw damn near 20mpg outa my pup when normally i get 17-18 going 65-75mph...but then again i get everybody even granma riding my butt!

Actually that would be just about perfect.  If I'm cruising about 65 or so, I'm right about 2300 rpms.  I go to work about 2am so it's kinda fuzzy.  But on the way home, watch out 'cause I have gotta go!  Speed limit up here in Michigan is 70, but with the ol' Jimmy I could swear the fuel guage proportionately goes down the higher the speedometer goes up.

I ran a 260 for many years long long ago and 2200 was not it best "happy" RPM. It was more like 2600 or a bit more. I would go with a 250 - 252 today if I had it to do over.
