go with a dana 44 but dont put a locker in it becasue they break with lockers and anything over a 40 inch tire.

I would not lock a 44 with 35 or bigger on a full sized vehicle.

That is what i said, dont lock a 44 blah blah blah.....but never the less 44's can handle up to 40" tires and if you want proof come wheelin with us and we will show you.

And you are playing Russian roulette with front axle too as you are well beyond design capacity and have actually reduces axle load capacity too. I do not play that game because when they fail (and they can) it is always at wrong time and I do not need any war stories about it happening to me.

Even you have to admit you gotta use what u have, i mean i certaininly dont have 1200 dollars to run out and buy a dana 60 but i would like to, so im sayin you have to deal with what you have.

And you deal with what you have by placing sensible limits on tires size on a D44 in a full sized 4x4. To me, "sensible" is 35's not 40's. I'll bet you make do and do not run 5.13 or 5.38 gears with 40's either and further limit your potential. The point is, do it right or do not do it in my book. I configure my 4x4 so I am 99.9% sure it is not going to break when I push things because that is important to me. Reliable service life and durability is far more important to me than ego over "looks".

i was thinking a dana 44 up front would be the best, i will never roll more than a 35" tire (the burb is primarily a family ride, but i want to be able to rely on it off road when i do go. I dont do any "rock crawling" or anything like that, but Nevada does have some rockey tarrain, and dirt hill climbs, sand, and even the occational mud! Lol Being from oregon, I love the mud!!! I just want a good reliable all around 4x4. So dana 44 up front, 14 bolt 9.5 rear, 4.56 gears and 33" Bfg,s should be a nice combo. Thanx for the info!

I do think that 33's with 4.56's and a D44/9.5 combo would indeed be a VERY nice combo in a burb! Fairly bullet proof and nice fully usable OD too.

my buddy ran 39s on his K10 with open diffs and 3:08 to 1 gears.

only thing that didnt break were the 10 bolts. engine through a rod and the tranny was fine but he had it rebuilt with the new engine. broke second gear clutch pack after that though. (th700R4)

hes gont one tons and 40s now, only a 4.56 though :/

It had to be so slow that a 3 cyl Geo Metro would have smoked it and with 4th total useless and 3rd not much better. The stupid things people do.

The thing is i dont run 40's for "looks" i could care less what other think of my truck, i run 40's on a dana 44 because of the need for ground clearance in the oregon forest trails and i would have a dana 60 but i dont have 1200 dollars under the cushions of my couch, but i guess everyone does.....

I would not run 40's on a D44 in a fullsize truck because I would not want to break it out in forest and have a big mess getting it out. What you need is a smaller/shorter WB 4x4 which can scale obstacles better, not bigger tires on smaller axles. I doubt the about 1 inch difference between a D44 and D60 is going to break you plus if you were that "worried" you would run 42's and a D60 up front for same clearance and a stronger axle overall with more strength reserve with 42's than a D44 with 40's by far.
