Well, with the annual Pismo trip fast approaching I was entirely content with going just to hang out with you guys, maybe even bum a ride or two around the sandbox. Heck I was even looking at getting a new bike to play with too. Unfortunately my wife got wind of my plans and pulls the classic move. You know, when they say "It won't be much fun without a truck" or even "It's a bummer we can't go driving around." I took that as a green light to pour more money into the moneypit, er Toyota.

I had found out that the cam were floating around where bearings used to lie causing the clacking and tapping I was so familiar with. I pulled a head off of a non-turbo Supra in a junkyard cause it had the best looking journals in the yard. So with just under two months left, I pulled my head and dropped both off with a new engine builder that comes highly recommended up by my new place.

Poor truck, once again torn into

The head took longer than I thought to get off, what with no engine compartment to stand in my way.

And the heads off to the machine shop.

I just hope I get this done in time. I also start a new job Monday which will eat into my time a little, but will help to bankroll this project.

Hmmm, we may wash the Jeeps before we go

Really though we will need to get the tranny worked on in the truck before we go.  It will get a new torque converter and rebuild prolly gonna cost a few dollars!

Nice! even Spencer's going out? I take it you finally figured out your half shaft issue?

I can't wait to be able to offroad with you guys.

I got a call from the engine guy yesterday and the junkyard head no no cracks, pressure tested good, and doesn't need to be decked for the head gasket. It even looks like the only good cams were my original turbo set. It sounds like I'll be able to get the motor together this weekend and might just make it out.

I also Forti-flashed the roof and doors thanks to Jason's recomendation and started getting the dash trimmed to fit around the cage. I'll grab pics when it's mounted but it's even starting to feel like an actual truck again.

What is up with the rear brakes Kev?  Are they drum brakes?  We are becoming better at the drum brakes, just did them on Shaynas YJ.

Jason you are going the wrong way.  When you prep for a trip you are suppose to put the tires on NOT OFF!

Are you going to weld the cage stright to the frame or make mounting plates?

Yea, there are a few more things missing than just the tires... haha...

Cage is going to go straight to the frame, but the frame will be plated... so yes to both I guess.
