08 Hummer H3 with the 3.7L In-Line 5.

Has anyone added a TBS or CAIK to this engine?

What is the verdict?

Thanks

A Throttle Body Spacer is a TOTAL waste of money with a multipoint fuel injection system. The whole theory of a spacer is with a carb or TBI it increases plenum under carb/TBI to aid fuel mixing and charging. There is no mixing taking place there with multipoint. On the air cleaner, everyone wants to believe in magic air cleaners but your engines intake is well tuned from factory and well protected against water ingestion too. A cold air kit will throw all that away.

By hobby only. I am semi retired with a engineering background. Been messing with 4x4's longer than most here (over 35 years now) To me it is not if things work but rather how and why things work. (the engineer in me I guess) Because of this, I tend to get a little technical at times.

I have an 06 with the 3.5, which is rated 220 hp from the factory. I installed a K&N aircharger system and I love it! K&N says it is 19 hp boost and I would believe it. The power increase is substantial and although I do not have a dyno I can feel the difference. At full throttle there is a notable increase in sound (not a bad thing I drive it a lot. I bought it in August 08 with 32K miles and yesterday when I changed my oil it had 70,500! I drive from southern MO to Rochester, MN each month, 560 miles each way. I picked up an honest 2 mpg.
It makes sense with a CAIK (I don't know if one brand is better than another) your engine will operate closer to it's peak of efficiency if it gets more air.
I have the same K&N in my 05 F-150 and plan on installing it on anything I will own. I did a lot of research before I installed it on my truck. There are NO down sides to installing a COIK that I have seen.
Good luck!
