Hey everyone... I recently purchased an 86 GMC suburban and was in the market for wheels and tires. A 4" suspension lift is currently on its way and i was told that i could mount something like 34x10.5x16s on the stock wheels 16x8s... however i want some stability since i will be going up i think i need to be going out as well... I like swampers LTB tires but they are bias and i want these tires to last a few years. should i consider radials? i want knobs... so i guess my question is what kinda options do i have for an 8 lug 16" wheel... i want cheap (Steel)... no bling on the wheels... and also... the shoes... i want big but not too wide... i like the LTB swamper but am open to any kind of tire you guys think could feed my inner offroad beast as well as hold up on the street... i dont want to go bigger than 12.5 inch wide... and 35s are as high as i want... but i need options with wheels and im on a budget... any 3/4 ton chevy guys out there? thanks.

so i found Maxxis MT 754 Buckshot Mudders in a 315/75/r16... pretty much 34.5inches tall... reviews look really good and its a radial so it will hold up on the street... and everyone pretty much says they get really good traction in snow and mud and stuff... so right now i think thats my tire... i just wonder about my turning radius... im not so concerned about fenders cause i can cut them if i have to... its the frame im worried about... the wheels dont have any offset at all so it might be a tight fit... Anybody ever run these tires on a sub?

I had 32 11.50 bfg's on my long bed and they were tight w/stock 8" rims, but every one wagon sits different, and it may be worth a try.Whats the load range on the maxxis,if ya dont mind me askin?

max load (lbs) 3195 (couldn't find a alpha rating) Ply Rating (8)
reason im interested in these tires is i saw a guys project truck (3/4 ton sub) with these mounted... and they look good... and the reviews are really good on the tire.
www.cucv.net/suburban/cucv.html
the link is broken cause the server is down or something... but this guy built a pretty nice rig. maybe it will work for you guys...
i want to try to avoid offset wheels if i can but i wont know for sure till i decide on tires anyway...
oh is there such a thing as an 8 lug 15" wheel?

well im guessing you probabley don't want an all terrain so im going to suggest the paraneli jones Dirt Grip radial tires, i have a set of 35x12.50x16.5 load range e tires. I LOVE THEM!! they are a nice mix between a mild mudder and aggressive swamper and best of all they aren't loud on the street like most mudders are, they work great in pretty much everything ive been in, mud, sand, loose gravel covered hills and i also like the fact that they are e rated so they can still carry a heavy load, my tires were pretty expensive because of the 16.5 inc rim which is getting rare but im sure a tire for a 16 or 15 inc rim is alot cheaper.
solid axle chevys cant be beat 78 K5: 350,700r4,np208, 8 lug D44 4:88, 14 bolt 10.5 4:88 with detroit locker and 35 inc

I dont know how and if its safe, but. ive seen farmers take the rims from their wagons an put them on a heavier truck, they look tough, but again i dont know if it would be safe.a 10 inch rim w/ a 33-35 inch tire looks good w/o going too wide

ya so i was checking craigslist and saw a set of rims for cheap... http://reno.craigslist.org/pts/643819246.html
but they are 16.5s... i like the slight offset of the wheel so i can mount a wider tire but i was thinking that my options might be more limited with that wheel... i think im going to keep looking for now... i could probly talk him down to like 80 bucks... but the wheels are kinda rusted and it came off a dodge. i know 8 lug chevy dodge have the same pattern but im worried about my hubs fitting and my monster brake drums. meh there not that great of a wheel anyway... plus the tires are gone...

Firestone Destination MT Mud Tire 305/70/16 load rating E

good price, good wear, and good off-road... i found these for 184 each and i can go pick them up rather than have them shipped for 150 bucks like a lot of the other tires that are not offered locally. so buying a cheaper tire online is the same as buying a better tire here... still open to suggestions!!! thanks to everyone who responded so far...

Hey Ryzman, if you wanna go with the Firestone's, I can hook ya up with a discount card to get those at 10% over cost! I just happen to work at a Bridgestone/Firestone plant. They give us like 10 cards a year to give away.

hey fatguy... hell ya im interested!
So an update on the big white land shark:
4 inch rough country lift installed with blocks in the rear. unfortunately my stock rear springs sag a little so to fix that i ordered 2-inch short add a leafs from rough country. they wanted 300+ for the rear springs!!! xept if i had bought all four springs at once i could have gotten the whole kit for under 500... whatever... so add a leafs should fix my problem even though im staying with the blocks which suck... im running 315/75/16 pro comp all terrains that i got for 60 bucks on craigs list and have about 6 months of tread left... truck looks good but i need to lengthen the drive line and play with the front brake lines this weekend... im right on the borderline with my stock gears with those tires... im almost possitive i have 3.73 gears. i actually might go with a smaller tire when i buy new... but for now it accelerates and drives pretty much like stock... thanks to the headers and edelbrock carb. i need to take some picks of this pig...
