Whats even better than the cries of abject terror of grown people is the silence of the truly frightend turning into the ooohhhs and oooo's of the newly converted, then after that(with the evil grin,As you do!) of them coming and trying the deed on their own...and ....well you know all about the limp home and facing mama, and trying to explain the new damage to the family truckster, and just what they were doing in dogpatch and..the fact that you made it look easy,wait... she said what? yea we better take you to the shop out in moab for awhile, good thing for the spare bed upstairs...happy wheelin!

Go for the longbed.I have been wheelin my 81 scottsdale 4x4 all over western colorado.through mud ,snow, rocks.i do agree that in the rocks the longbed can be a disadvantage.but i have followed some jeeps, broncos through some pretty tight places. : .plus the looks you get when a longbed chevy goes through trails that jeeps go around : just remember driving skill has alot to do with it.and the 6"tuff country lift and the 35"mtr's help alot too.cool.

First off, thanks for the replies guys. Secondly, I think two points stand out to me, long beds are harder to maneuver on trails and according to SnoMan they are harder to get out of being stuck. To answer the question as to what kind of terrain, mostly mud and trails. I live in the Bay Area of California so i frequently goto Clear Creek and Hollister Hills. The thing that I liked about my 92 SFA S10 Blazer, was that it had such a small wheel base, it was easy to negotiate. But on the flip side, hauling with a long bed is awsome because of so much stuff you can pack in there to camp. But i guess thats what they make trailers for right? Im sold, goin for the short box. Its not a daily driven freeway truck, so hopefully it wont wobble. Thanks for the thoughts guys.

I believe that a longer whel base tracks better in the mud and such. And the shorter ones turn better but are more likely to spin around a little and catch a tree. I think for my next to i would like to go small like a sami, jeep or rodeo with about 33's. I have had a long box and 2 short box k-10.

i learned how to wheel in a longbed chevy out here in the oregon forest so it is tight and now that i have a stepside it is like cake manuvering in and out of trees. i would say that having a long bed is alot of fun in the woods, more of a challenge!!!
'80 chev stepside,3/4 ton, 4 spd, 40" interco's, crazy flex, and one good driver lol
