anyone know of a 5 speed tranny that will fit a small block chevy engine that will hold togeather under 500 ft-lbs of torque?
the closest one ive seen is the richmond transmissions.
btw, the engine i built is a supercharged 5.7 liter LT-1. high lift cams, forged pistons. weiand supercharger, polished ports, shaved heads, bored over, all that good stuff.
the guys at a local engine shop rated it at 472.1 HP @ 6500 RMP. somewhere around 450 ft-lbs of troque. at the crank.
in less than 100 miles it completely ate up an old transmission i got from the junkyard. it completely smoke the clutch, made small cracks on the bell housing and ate the gears ALIVE!!! i think i have created a monster...
i it was a tranny out of a late 80's year model 1500 pickup. not shure of the model. i got the transmission for free, so no big deal. i didnt expect it to last anyway.

A NV4500 5 speed manual could handle it fine. A ZFS6 six speed manual is "rated" at 650 ft lbs. The bellhousing it will bolt too also bolts to a SB. A 4L80 automatic could too. The only "danger" with a automatic is if you gear it too tall and force tranny to ride stall a lot and slow bake it. And the Allison could handle it no sweat.

thanks.
yall remember me talking about that th350 i used to have. killed it too.
i think something is wrong with either 2nd or 3rd gear. when you take off, it changes from 1st fine, hits second, fine too, when it hits 3rd, you have to accelerate very slowly or it will act like its trying to kickdown, and it will shift down into 2nd, then back to 3rd, 2nd, 3rd. and it keeps downshifting/upshifting untill you let off the gas. it dosent have problems, if i accelerate VERY slowly. i checked the vaccume hose for leaks and it has a fresh change of fluid. any ideas?

The THM 350 is not controlled by vacuum, it is controlled by a TV cable hooked to throttle. If it is adjusted wrong, it can shift all wrong.

yes, but i lost the vacume hose off of it one time and it didnt shift right. the engine had to run at very high rmp, then it would shift. put the hose back on, problem solved.
anyway...
where would this cable be? its not on or around the carberator linkage is it?
personally i think somethings wrong with the internals, maybe a syncro or clutch plates gone bad.
it just started doing this a few days ago, so i doubt it would be the tv cable.
like i said, in 3rd gear it tries to kickdown into 2rd gear, even under very light acceleration. it acts liek im going up a steep hill or something
anyway you might be right, ill check it out...

i could wright a book about all this stuff huh?
anyone know where the TV cable goes into the transmission? is it around the shift linkage, or on the side of the bellhousing?
