Hey, just found out that my 98 Tacoma frame has completely rusted through. After some research, discovered models from about 97 thru 03 have the same "sudden onset" problem. Last January inspection was just fine - now they'd be lucky to get it up on jacks. I've owned the truck for 9 years, only has 74,000 miles on it. Can't get it inspected, Toyota has washed their hands of me. Wanted to sell it in the spring - now I'm completely stuck.....Trying to find some replacement parts or a safe "quick fix" - can anyone help me ?

your gonna have to find a good frame shop or a very good welding shop and maybe have to beg to get it fixed. it's been my experience that most won't touch frames cuz then they are liable for anything in the future. look around they are out there and someone should take the job. your other option is to part out the truck. sorry i couldnt be more help. good luck!
STAND ON IT!!!

Its funny how I have been researching this frame problem since Sunday(when my frame broke and rusted at the leaf spring bracket)that so many people have been having the same problem. Yet, when I call Toyota customer service in California, they are completely stunned and have no idea and completly play stupid. I take that as an insult to me as a customer. The entire back portion of the frame is rusting severly and it will cost more than I owe on the son of a *** to get it fixed. It seem to have just rusted in a matter of a year. Thanks Toyota!!!

And Toyota surpassed GM in sales to take number one. Isn't that a slap in the face. From what I have seen, all Toyotas rust out fairly bad. I prefer to buy American vehicals made in America, not foreign vehicals made in America.

Toyota has now extended the rust warranty on 1995 - 2000 tacomas to 15 years. If you have rust problems with a rusty frame, take it to a dealership and have the frame inspected. If it is rusted through, they will buy your truck back for 1.5 times the max retail value (as excellent condition) of it in Kelley Blue Book. If you decide to purchase a new Taco, you also get a $1,000 loyalty rebate plus all applicable incentives. You can also get $500 loyalty rebate on any Toyota certified vehicle.

I have a toyota tocoma excab pick up. 4 cylinder 2.7 lter 4wd 5 speed manual. sr5 package, tilt wheel air, power sterring cruise, am/fm cassette, dual air bags etc. Anyway a guy stop me at one of our local Stewart shops ( quickie mart) and told me of the recall on the frames. 2 weeks ago my husband had to weld in a bandaid because the frane cracked right through. What is up with this. This guy told me of a recall and a kelly blue book x1.5 value. Is it bogus? Just scared driving such a mint truck. email me at kafey316@yahoo.com.
thanks kathy

Glad to report it is NOT bogus. We brought our 98 Tacoma into the dealership on Saturday. We had extensive perforated rust throughout the back of the frame, especially over the tire wells. We couldn't leave the lot with the truck, so we are drivng a '09 Corolla rental, at their cost, until we find out what they will buy back our truck for. My hubby heard from the dealership that the man the day before us received $16,000 for his...although he did "trade" his in truck and bought a new vehicle from the dealership with his buy-back money. So here we wait. Supposedly, we will receive 150% of the blue book RETAIL value, at excellent. I sure hope so. My suggestion, bring your truck in, you won't leave the lot with it, though, you'll get the rental. Toyota has a multi-million dollar lawsuit staring at them if they didn't do something to try and rectify this problem, hence the reason they are now doing this. Hope this helps. Shae
