Really, no I6 in a compact truck for you? I would probably buy one if they had an I6 pushing about 250+HP. The I5 is about 220HP right? suppose that would be enough in a compact truck.

I do not like long I-6's in compact truck that gives a long hood or has engine wedged in between radiator and the firewall. They did play well in old full sized trucks though.

The good thing about the Ford straight 6, is that it will run until the end of time with good maintence. I have a 1991 F-150 as well as my '76 F-250, the straight 6 has over 250,000 miles and after a valve cover gasket and a water pump it still runs like a champ. It has tons of the low end torque that someone mentioned earlier. I change oil every 7,000. No that is not a misprint. It is backed by the 5 speed tranny, and would have no problems driving anywhere! A full size truck is where they belong from the factory, but what kind of four wheelers would we be if we did not mix and match... I mean really a 2 1/2 ton Rockwell sure as hell didn't come stock under a Jeep or Ford truck, we put them there because that is what we do we make the best vehicle that we can with the peices that have been proven to work, and if the I-6 works, put it in a Fiesta if you want, it dosen't matter!

I figured as much because generally when you keep breaking mounts, driveline torque is above design limits most of the time.

Too much plastic and too much to go wrong with new trucks. The old hard core carb'ed ones with solid axle, regardless of brand, is the way to go. Those were "trucks", I am not sure what you call these new things anymore.

Did you see they are going to put that I5 in the new H3? They are droping the curb wieght quite a bit but that seems like an aufull small moter for that big a rig.

Ya, that does seem like a fairly small motor. But it may be a good compromise for all the weight they will drop in the nose, still sounds aweful small to me though. I bet you it may drop the price also. Who wants a H3 anyways, to new. I'd rather  get one of the old "go anywhere" military hummers.

I totaly agree! The H2,H3 are not Hummers at all. I know it's almost imposible to get a military Hummer, but I would like at least to get a complete drive train from one of them. I think it was the latest  Car & Driver did a write up on the H3. They ran a few of them up the rubicon trial and said thew did well. I would havee to look again but I think  they said it had 4000# curb weight? and started at 30g,s. Still I would rather  have a military hummer or a H1.
