This is a 1979 U1100L or 416 unimog, it has a 5.7L diesel. the catch is it is in Gaggenau Germany. A deal is not sealed yet but getting closer...
![]() It would still be a month or more before it would get to the port of long beach. It has some minor rust, not a big deal.. It/they are bare bones inside...will need to do sound deadening ect. I will have to get used to not going anywhere fast..again not a really big deal. I will probably do a conversion on it to run veggy oil as well as biodiesel/diesel. I am thankful there are no electronics controlling the engine.....I will need to decide what to paint it...maybe a camo...?? wish me ruck....

Well seeing as I do not even have a complete deal or rig to look at...my mind is not made up on paint yet. I have not ruled out Kermy green, but i would feel like I am trying to replace Kermy, which I am not. BTW, Kermy's new owner reports pulling many new rubicons & wranglers out of the mud while (kermy is) snickering.. One way or another the new color/paint scheme will have to do with it being a "green" rig. If I go camo, it will not be standard camo..it will be something like

Ive heard the military is experimenting with an active camo, from what i saw was a flexable lcd poncho ,probably hokus pokus, but ..maybe. If you got a way to make a flexible lcd thingawooger, then you could aim a camera on the other side 180 deg. of whose looking at ya,then project the image onto the camo tarp.er.thinger,they in effect would be looking right through you.neet huh! think of the hunting posabilitys? or truckster hide an go seek at area fitty one,or goin down the freeway at a hunnert and the popo irradiating you with the old radar gun and nuffink is there, coool innit!.and for my next trick have a camera on all 5 sides of you wagon,(if your dirty side up it wont matter, the smoke will signal your presence, thata way any where you look your not there...maybee..

I don't know Doc, I doubt I'd get a mog unless its a trailer queen...
I probably would have sold the body/frame off the green rig and kept the axles/leafs/transfer case/engine/tranny and bolted it all in into a vehicle of your choice
you had a bulletproof setup with a good amount of work into it, not sure why you ditched all that work.. should have kept everything and swapped it under a new body

Arthur, I hear you and even thought about something like that. But in the end, I believe the unimog configuration "stock" will go anywhere Kermy would have gone and more. It will be capable of carrying more people and gear for camping/camper and actually most parts are still available from any Mercedes dealer worldwide. They are used worldwide for expeditions and re-supply runs where little support or help is available. BTW, Kermy is being used and really enjoyed by his new owner...that is the best i could have hoped for...

aren't highway speeds pretty limited on those?
also, which mog axle are you going to? I know there's a heavier duty and lighter duty one
plus, kermy had balls

The one in the pic will be limited to about 55-60 but i can change R&P and get up to 65-70, I will be ok with 55-60 for now...just leave earlier..enjoy the journey : ) I assure you this mog will not be ball-less. the 404s are the gas mogs and have the "ligher" duty axles which are stronger than dana 60 or 14 bolt by far. The one I am working is a U1100 or 416 which means it has the heavier duty axles... at the top of this page http://flugzeugschlepper.de/ you will see what the short wheel base 406 was made to *** mine is the 416 which is just longer wb but still shorter than the duramax. Ant truck which in its working life towed full size airplanes around will be beeeeeffffy...
