Hi,
I am a novice to the off road world and to put it humbly don't know much. I do though know a fair bit about cars as I have been around, in and under them since I was born.
I am looking at purchasing an International Scout I have one in mind it is a Scout 800 six cylinder. I will be taking this car to Israel, and probably wont do much extreme off four wheeling, just the occasional dirt road. I am mainly interested the Scout for its great looks and cheap price, I know this is the wrong reason to be interested in a Scout, but after my four years in the military I will be leaving it in Israel.
So basically I want to know from you, Is this a good choice?? Are there any particulars I should be aware of when purchasing a Scout? Is the 800 a good choice? Any advice is helpful!!

Thank you for your help,
Elliott

if you are not doing anything "extreme" you should be fine. the 800 is a smaller scout compared to the scout II and traveler. 4 wheel drum brakes and lighter duty axles. i say "extreme" that is a pretty general and relative term for offroading, since i would consider myself conservative offroading but anybody i bring out withme who has never been thinks i am crazy. but the scout is a good choice for value and style, if you are stuck on that body style that is cool, but you might consider the 1974-80 scout II for the available front disc brakes stock and larger axles. i think the scout 800 also came with a three speed tranny and the scout II comes with an available 4 spd.

Thanks for your input!
The fact that it is a three speed and also the drum brakes are truly what is holding me back at this point. It does have a Dana 44 axle in the rear and a Danna 27  in the front, I must add to me this really means nothing. I understand the Danna 44 is supposed to be very good...
well im giving it some serious thought seems to be a really nice truck

the axle size will limit you on tire size, if you only have the dana 27 you will be limited to a 31" tire, if you have the dana 44 you could run a 35" no sweat
