outlawoffroadofaz: as i said before, the reverse thread was not my main concern, it was just a part of the product. what I really wanted was an upgraded nut design.
wow, there you go again commenting without reading all of the info!
hey, maybe these people don't know what they're doing either.
QUAD4X4.COM We see a lot of problems with the outer wheel bearing wearing into the spindle nuts on Ford and Dodge trucks with elastic stop nuts and lock wedges. For these years, we replace the original single nut and wedge with a spindle nut upgrade set that consists of a thrust washer, lockwasher, two nuts, and an axle shaft gasket. This upgrade is available in a kit with a spindle nut socket.
so do you still stand by your statement that this 40 years of design is correct, or will you finally agree with me that some axles, depending on their owner's abuse level, could use an upgrade???
How did we get from 10 bolt front axles to Ford and Dodge axles????? I remember reading in 1977 about how GM planned to "clone" the D44 based on a 10 bolt starting with 79 models. In the GM truck line with front drive axles little has changed so I stand by what I had said earlier because this was a GM truck to begin with. I cannot speak for Ford or Dodges attempts (Dodge does not even believe in lock out hubs either) Setting preload is critical on that axle. YOu want to error to a little loose in end play not tight. As I have said you want a little noticeable end play when it is locked down because when it heats up it will tend to remove some of it as parts expand and if it is to tight it will get tighter and either burn bearing on put a lot of extra stress on nuts holding it on truck. Many do not realize this and this is why I still say, if ou set it up correctly, with correct hardware it will not loosen up!

hey snowman, here's what i was looking for, i didnt find the spindle, but someone else found an awesome product that i have already ordered. i guess these people dont know how to set preload, either. wow, if only all of these ignorant people knew what you knew!!! oh, and we got on the subject because you said manufacturers, not chevy specific. also, you still have not been able to answer the problem of nuts exploding at glamis when landing a jump. hopefully these new nuts will be stronger. you still fail to see that there was more than one problem with these nuts, and that i was not the only one. you also continue to put the blame on me for not using the proper install technique. thank god someone found it for me, now i dont have to be on this site listening to you, i can go wheeling again!!!
stage8.com: The patented Stage 8 Locking Spindle Nut is comprised of 5 parts; a thrust washer, a specialized notched washer, the spindle nut (which can be set to an individual pre-load value), a locking retainer and a heavy spring steel snap ring.
The Locking Spindle Nut assembly is easily installed without any specialized tools and spindle nut itself can be locked within ½ degree of any position so you will never have to over or under torque and will maintain the required bearing preload value. This extremely tough innovation withstands severe reverse torque, a real plus when you’re 25 miles away from civilization.
