Hello Everyone I have a 2001 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0SOHC i have an open front differential and a LSD in the rear. Now when i engage my truck into 4x4 High It still allows my back tire to spin for example. If im on ice and i floor it my front and rear both spin but then the front slows down and the rear continues to spin.
Also if im in 4x4hi going around a corner and i step on it Once my rear tire hits the sand it still spins and my back end slides is this due to the fact that i dont have locking diffs???

Not sure what you are getting at here but the reason your rear end slides or fishtail is because you have a LSD/Posi in rear. A locker with be worse in this regard.

I dont get why the rear tire is allowed to spin and the front doesnt when its locked into 4wd if the rear tire is on sand and the front on pavement the rear still spins when locked into 4x4 isnt the front and rear axle locked together??

mudb8-.: the allwheel drive t-case
It fits, front end is heavier so it would have better average traction and the all wheel drive would send same torque to both axles and the torque needed to spin rear wheels is less so it spins out first.

Its a part time 4wheel drive system and i thought the rear wasnt allowed to spin unless the front spins.

there is such a thing as part time allwheel drive... with a locked in t-case, at least one front and one rear will turn at the same time..unless, its not locked in or there is a problem with the/a hub

Figured it out talked to a buddy of mine and found out my transfer case is a part time 4wd transfer case but it has a viscous coupling or something which allows for different wheel speeds.
Here is my questions i heard you can weld something in the transfer case to lock the front and rear axle together so there is a 50/50 power split and the rear wont spin unless the front is The transfer case has a chain in it So what would i need to weld together to lock it all together?

If it has a viscous coupling, it is not a true part time case. A full time case will do 50/50 on torque division all the time (just like a standard/open diff) while a part time case can do anything for 0/100 (front rear) to 100/0 or anything in between depending on which axle has most traction as axles are locked together. Your viscous coupling is such that it can maybe do 75/25 or so but can never send full power to front axle. It is really not as bad as it sounds given the vehicle it is in anyway.

So what can i weld in there to make it a true 4wd with a 50/50 split to front and rear.

i thought the viscous coupling used a silicone medium to hydraulicly connect the 'shafts together via a "pump"? in the t-case.good for hotrodding to deliver traction on acceleration on the street, kinda like the gmc syclone/typhoon of the 90's. Hey mudb8,maybe he could use a f150 tranny/tcase?

LSD's slip. Lockers will not.

figured that the tranny t/case combo would cross over within family line. thought the explorer-f 150 used the same chassis? maybe running gear the same, that was the line of reasoning.like dodge uses the 545RFE in everything. maybe a wrecked 1 or 250 can donate a bigger or more useful t-case for the four wheeling needs..maybe..

that may be possible..I'm not into the ford brand so I'm not familiar with those without searching...
