Hey fellow 4whlrs, i guess you have read the  article on propane carbs from technocarb, but i tried to get a hold of them and i have had no luck, i was just wondering if anyone else has had good luck with  converting to propane?  i just went to a site to convert a 460, and they wanted 1000 for everything.  crazyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!  i was wondering if anyone else has a cheep source to convert using an actual holley 4barrel propane carb?  please share if so!!!!!!!!

what all was included in the kit you were looking at for 1000.  Gas tank and hoses and all or just carb vaporizer and motor stuff.  I know there are alot of forklifts that may be good for 4 cyls. and some that would be for I-6 but cannot thick of something cheap for that size motor.  I think the vaporizer and lines are the same on the I-6 and the I-4 so may be able to just get the carb for propane off an old power company truck or police car etc.  let us know if you find something out.

I do not think the vaporizor is going to be too much of a problem. I think the metering and storage is going to be the issue. UPS used Propane power deleivery trucks for many years until several years ago. Maybe you can find a few in a boneyard for parts and maybe fuel tanks?  Also you will use about 40% more fuel (unless you raise engine compression ratio greatly) than with gas so plan a big tank/bottle if you are feed a big engine.  YOu can only fill to 80% so a 100 gallon tank will give 80 gallons and about the same range as 50 gallons of gas.

Hey though, I raced on the stuff for a few years and it was my daily driver, good power and econommy, you got get a fuel card fro discount priced propane, but i am a believer. I drove to Ottawa and back, five years, no maintainence to system, oil stays clean, and that mileage drop, at least on my vehiclle was no where near 40%.

Propane systems. Buy Impco, simple from California, designed without adapter to fit holley 4 bbl.
